Our Program
About Cyber Insights
Fostering a safe and responsible digital environment for all.
Why this exists
Every day, students, staff, and families across CNUSD rely on technology to learn, work, and stay connected. From email and educational applications to student information systems and devices, technology is embedded in the way we work.
As our reliance on technology grows, so does the importance of using it safely and responsibly. Understanding common risks and recognizing warning signs helps protect personal information and the services our district depends on.
Many cybersecurity incidents don't begin with sophisticated attacks. They begin with simple actions such as clicking a link, sharing information with the wrong person, reusing a password, or overlooking a warning sign.
While technology provides important safeguards, cybersecurity also depends on people. The choices we make online help protect our information, our schools, and our community.
Cyber Insights helps the CNUSD community better understand cybersecurity risks and develop practical habits that improve digital safety. Through guidance, real-world examples, and educational resources, we make cybersecurity easier to understand and apply in everyday situations.
Our approach
What the program does
Incident Response
We detect, contain, and learn from security events across the district — from suspicious emails to active threats.
Every reported incident is documented, analyzed, and used to strengthen our defenses.
Awareness Campaigns
Year-round programming that builds cybersecurity habits across the district — articles, trainings, special campaigns, and more.
Including Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Data Privacy Week, and year-round awareness activities.
Training & Professional Development
Targeted cybersecurity training for staff, including live sessions tailored to specific roles and needs.
Available year-round. Departments and sites can request custom sessions.
Policy & Governance
Cybersecurity, AI, and data privacy policies that protect the district while enabling the work we do.
Including our AI policy, Acceptable Use Policy, and alignment with California K-12 privacy requirements.
Vendor & Data Privacy Review
Reviewing the tools and services the district uses to ensure student and staff data is protected.
Built around California K-12 requirements: AB-1584, FERPA, SOPIPA, COPPA, and CA-NDPA.
Threat Intelligence
Monitoring the K-12 threat landscape so the district can act on what matters.
Informed by K-12 SIX, CISA, and ongoing analysis tailored to our environment.
